What is Craniosacral Therapy?
CST, or Craniosacral Therapy (also known as Cranial-Sacral Therapy), is a gentle, soft-touch type of therapy that taps into the body's innate ability to heal itself when possible. Using specifically designed, light pressure, techniques CST releases restrictions and compression in the Craniosacral system.
How Does it Work?
The Craniosacral system is a physiological system - like our cardiovascular and respiratory systems - that provides the physical environment in which the brain and spinal cord develop and function. Comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord, this system - like its counterparts - has its own rhythm.
CST practitioners use a very light touch to monitor this rhythm and pinpoint sources of obstruction and stress in the body. Once located, the therapist assists the natural movement and release of the restriction through gentle massage of the bones in the skull (including the face and mouth), spine, and pelvis. Once the restriction is removed, and the cerebrospinal fluid can return to its natural rhythm, the body's own healing process takes over.

What are the Benefits?
Because CST is focused on the physiological system surrounding the brain, nerves and spine it can dramatically effect both the physical and mental health of person receiving treatment. In addition to simply calming the nervous system and reducing stress, CST has has been shown to provide benefits to people suffering from a number of chronic disorders including:
- Migraine headaches
- Chronic neck and back pain
- Motor-coordination impairments
- Autism
- Central nervous system disorders
- Orthopedic problems
- Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries
- Scoliosis
- Learning disabilities
- Chronic fatigue
- Emotional difficulties
- Stress and tension-related problems
- Fibromyalgia and other connective-tissue disorders
- Temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or immune disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Post-surgical dysfunction
Because of the very gentle nature soft touch of CST, it can even be applied to young children and infants to treat childhood conditions like poor sleep, restlessness, colic and ear infections.
